Arsenal back for Spence and Tottenham join the race for him

The ‘Daily Mirror’ claims that Arsenal’s interest in signing Djed Spence, the Middlesbrough starlet who has played on loan at Nottingham Forest this season, has returned. In doing so, a new suitor for the youngster has emerged, Tottenham Hotspur. The player is just 21 years old.

Four months after it emerged that Arsenal, Inter Milan and Roma were interested in signing Djed Spence, the ‘Daily Mirror’ reports that the Gunners have regained their interest in signing him. It also adds Tottenham Hotspur to the race, who could compete with them for this young gem.

He is a 21-year-old who has played this season on loan at Nottingham Forest from Middlesbrough. His market value is still low, but this is likely to be due to his youth and the fact that he has not yet excelled in the Premier League. His good work has been in the Championship.

But it was the FA Cup that launched him into the national spotlight, as he played a part in his side’s shock victory over Leicester City in the FA Cup. From then on, he did not score another goal or assist until a league game against Bristol City and a couple more against Reading and Queens Park Rangers respectively.

Even so, his continuity in the Championship and the potential seen in his style of play have been enough to give him options to move on next season. He is under contract until 2024, so the Middlesbrough board will have to decide whether to negotiate for him or reject his departure.
