Arsenal ‘hopeful’ of Raphinha transfer as Fabian Ruiz pursuit continues

Arsenal’s summer transfer window is set to be a busy one.

The north London outfit have already added young Brazilian winger Marquinhos, American goalkeeper Matt Turner and Portuguese playmaker Fabio Vieira to their ranks this summer, with a few more signings still expected. football.london understands that a centre-forward, a winger, and a defender are all likely to arrive at the Emirates Stadium providing a number of fringe players can be shipped out in the coming months.

With all that being said, we have a look at three of the biggest transfer rumours involving the Gunners over the last 24 hours.

Raphinha hope

Leeds United star Raphinha continues to be linked with a move to Mikel Arteta’s side and The Telegraph have now reported that the north Londoners are hoping the aforementioned deal to sign Vieira will help them land the former Lille winger this summer. The report goes on to claim that Vieira and Raphinha are both represented by the Gestifute agency, which is run by super-agent Jorge Mendes.

It is claimed said that the smoothness of the negotiation to bring the young playmaker to the club may help in negotiations for Raphinha. The 25-year-old has also been heavily linked with La Liga side Barcelona, although some reports suggest that the Catalan club are currently unable to afford him due to their ongoing financial problems.

Still, the skilful wideman has been coy when asked about his future in Yorkshire, claiming that it is all up to his agent Deco and his parent club. “I have a contract with Leeds until 2024, my future is in the hands of Deco and Leeds,” he said while on international duty with Brazil.

“I have my mind set on the national team, on the game and also on my vacations. I have a contract with Leeds and this issue is resolved by my agent. When there is something, he will tell me.”

Fabian Ruiz move

Arsenal boss Arteta had made it no secret of his desire to sign experienced players this summer given his current squad is one of the youngest in the Premier League. “We want to make the squad stronger, we want to make the starting XI stronger, we want to make the specificity and the personality of our players stronger, and that’s what we are going to be seeking to do,” he told Sky Sports last month.

And one established player that has been mooted as a potential target is Napoli central midfielder Fabian Ruiz, who has just over 12 months remaining on his current deal with the Serie A outfit. Now, Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport have reported that the Gunners are the most interested party in the Spanish international, with Newcastle United also reportedly keen on the 26-year-old.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been linked with a move for Ruiz, who has previously admitted such links are flattering. “It’s flattering to hear about these clubs’ interest in me, that’s for sure,” he said earlier this year when asked about reported interest from the La Liga giants.
