Gabriel Magalhaes has revealed he “jokes around” with Gabriel Jesus in the Brazil dressing room about his transfer links with Arsenal.

The Manchester City striker has been linked with a move to the Emirates after Erling Haaland arrived at the Etihad from Borussia Dortmund. The Gunners have been in contact with Pep Guardiola’s side over a potential deal for the Brazilian with City slapping a £55million price tag on the striker, according to ESPN.

Jesus is a player that Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of following their spell working together at the Etihad. Jesus is keen on a switch to the Emirates as his agent Marcelo Pettinati confirmed that he likes the Spaniard’s project.

Arsenal already have a Brazilian presence in the dressing room with both Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli featuring regularly under Arteta. Gabriel is sharing a dressing room with Jesus and Martinelli this week as he prepares to make his international debut in Tite’s side.

And the centre-half spoke about Arsenal’s chase for Jesus revealing he has joked about the rumours with his compatriot.

“We joke around in the dressing room, but there’s nothing certain,” Gabriel told a press conference this week. “Of course, he’s a quality player and if he goes to Arsenal, he would help us a lot.”

Jesus opened up about his future after City sealed the Premier League title at the weekend. He confirmed that he has made the Etihad club aware of what he is looking for and that he will make a decision in the summer.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, he said: “About my future, it’s still uncertain. I have a contract with City and I have already expressed my desire to the City people and to my agent. I have in my head [a very clear idea of] what I want.

“Today, I want to celebrate a lot with City. It’s obvious that I’m very happy here. Tomorrow, if everything goes well for me, my wife and our family, [daughter] Helena will come to the world.

“So, I have to take advantage of this moment. Then, think about the team, smile at the team again. And, on vacation, I [will] decide about my future.”

Guardiola was not drawn on the rumours earlier this season, however, saying: “I want to tell you something, Gabriel is our player. I don’t know what is going to happen but he is a Manchester City player.

“But Gabriel doesn’t need to do a performance like today to score four goals to know exactly what he can do. Against Liverpool in the FA Cup, he had two clear chances man to man and he missed them, but always he is there, and Gabriel has this incredible ability because he is always thinking what is the best for the team.

“A thousand million movements, he doesn’t get the ball and he still makes a thousand million movements for the other ones. And personally, when he has nights like this I am the happiest man in the world because always he’s there. If he doesn’t play he’s there training the day after like it’s his last day, that’s why he will have a long career, he will have a successful career because of the incredible positivity in his mind and thinks for the team.”
