Arsenal would ‘lose half of the fanbase’ if Liverpool and Manchester City transfer target, Bukayo Saka, is sold, says Anfield legend Steve Nicol.
There has been some talk of late that, both Liverpool and Man City, are keen on the England international, but Nicol stated that Arsenal ‘won’t let him go’, else there would be a ‘revolt’, as he told ESPN.
It could be argued that Saka, who will celebrate his 21st birthday just before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is probably the first name on Mikel Arteta’s teamsheet and he is now a regular for his country.
The Hale-End star has gone from strength to strength since he broke into the first team under the stewardship of Unai Emery, before taking his game to another level under Arteta.
But the Gunners possibly selling one of their own? Well, Nicol made it pretty clear that it simply can’t happen.
“They won’t let him go,” said Nicol. “If they want to lose half the fanbase, then they will turnaround and sell Bukayo Saka tomorrow, it’s as simple as that.
“If they were to do that, then my goodness, there would be a revolt amongst the fans, so that’s not happening. Regardless of what would be offered for him. It’s not happening.”
SAKA KEY TO ARSENAL RETURNING BACK TO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
If Arsenal want to get back amongst the big boys, then keeping Saka is a must because he is a key ingredient to their long-term success.
The first step is trying to get back into the Champions League, they narrowly missed out on that last season, but if it wasn’t for Saka’s 11 Premier League goals and seven assists, then they probably would have been in a much worse position.
But Saka is the poster boy for Arsenal, the fan favourite and the one those at the Emirates believe will hit the very top ceiling of football.
However, they will want it all to occur in the colours of Arsenal and not elsewhere because it will be a bitter pill to swallow, otherwise.
