The 23-year-old has reportedly rejected Arsenal’s advances in the hope of staying in Serie A, with the player wanting to remain in Italy.

As far as rumours go, Arsenal’s interest in Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca is quickly gathering steam. The centre-forward has been in the limelight for a move to north London for the past couple of weeks.

According to The Sun, Arsenal launched a £35 million bid for his services to bring him to the Emirates. However, the player swiftly rejected the club’s approach.

Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca reportedly turns down Arsenal move

Favouring a move to Italian giants AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Napoli, Scamacca is thought to be staying in Serie A next season. The 23-year-old rose to prominence with Sassuolo as he found the net 16 times in the league from his 36 appearances as the Neroverdi finished the 2021/22 season in 11th position in the table.

If the reports are to be believed, then it does show that Mikel Arteta and co are on the move early this summer. Eddie Nketiah is the only recognised striker in the squad with Alexandre Lacazette returning to Lyon.

Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, Victor Osimhen, and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been three names vigorously linked with the Gunners as adding firepower is essential for Mikel Arteta this offseason.

Scamacca would be a cheaper alternative and he possesses everything Arsenal need in a new striker. Pace, aerial prowess with his 6’5 frame, excellent technical ability, and efficient in front of goal; the Italian has all the makings of an elite number nine.

With Scamacca reportedly rejecting Arsenal’s advances in favour of a big Italian club coming calling, it is unlikely for any negotiations to progress unless teams rule themselves out of the running. However, that is a pipedream.

At least Mikel Arteta is not sitting on his hands and waiting for players to become available or waiting to get them at a discount price. He has identified the players he wants and is going after them.

While the reported rejection of our advances does hurt as Scamacca would be a welcome addition, it does show that Arsenal mean business this summer.
