Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to sign Ajax star

Manchester United have several positions in the squad which are a problem for them and have been for a while. Centre-back is one such area. The Red Devils just have not been able to solve their issues there despite making multiple big signings in recent years. They made Harry Maguire the most expensive defender in the history of football and when Raphael Varane was signed, expectations were that they had finally found a solution.

Things have not quite gone that way, as the Red Devils have continued to struggle defensively. Not just that but they seemed to have taken a step back last season. Varane was a disappointment and did not look like a player who had won multiple Champions League titles and the World Cup with France.

On the other hand, everybody around him seemed to take a step back from the previous season as well. The results were disastrous and the leaky defence was one of the main reasons Manchester United ended up finishing 6th in the Premier League table and trophyless for the fifth straight campaign.

With Erik ten Hag arriving as the new manager, one would expect the club to sign another centre-back this summer. And it looks like he has his eyes on one of his former stars at Ajax – Jurrien Timber. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, transfer insider Dean Jones said about the situation:

“Jurrien Timber, for sure, is somebody that they’re looking at. Ten Hag wants to sign a couple of players that understand him and how his teams function, so Timber would obviously help solve the problem at centre-back in terms of depth and quality and competition for places as well.”

It is safe to say that someone like Timber could be a great addition to the Manchester United squad.

While Timber is just 21 years of age, he was already a regular at Ajax, under the management of Ten Hag. He has also made multiple appearances for the Netherlands national team as well.

It is believed that Ajax could be ready to part ways with Timber for a transfer fee around €40 million. Now, it remains to be seen if Manchester United end up making a move or not.
