In Act I of Diablo 2: Resurrected, players must locate and save Deckard Cain by completing a puzzle involving Cairn Stones. Along with tough boss battles, there are also intricate mysteries to uncover, and difficult challenges and puzzles for players to solve. As a remake of the classic game, Diablo 2: Resurrected includes several changes from the original, but the main quests, like the Cairn Stone puzzle, remain the same.
Deckard Cain is an important NPC for players who want to equip high-quality items dropped by Diablo 2: Resurrected’s more difficult bosses. Any item above normal quality will need to be identified before players can equip and use them. Rather than using Scrolls of Identify all the time, players can instead return to Deckard Cain in town and have him identify the items so they can be used or discarded. Before this option is available, players will first need to solve the Cairn Stone puzzle in Act I to save Deckard Cain.
The Cairn Stone puzzle has a prerequisite that players need to complete before they will be able to activate the stones. Players will need to travel to Stony Field, through the Underground Passage, and into the Dark Wood to find a scroll with the puzzle’s solution. The scroll will also need to be investigated by Akara in town in order to reveal the correct order to activate the Cairn Stones.
Solving The Cairn Stone Puzzle In Diablo 2: Resurrected
To begin the Cairn Stone puzzle in Diablo 2: Resurrected, players should travel to Stony Field in Act I. The stones are located in this area, but they can’t be interacted with yet. Instead, players will need to search around the perimeter of Stony Field to find the entrance to the Underground Passage. They will need to fight through hordes of enemies in the first level of the Underground Passage to reach the Dark Wood.
The Tree of Inifuss, which holds the scroll needed to complete the puzzle, is in the Dark Wood area. The maps in Diablo 2: Resurrected are randomly generated, so there isn’t a specific spot to find the Tree of Inifuss every time. Once players locate the tree, they must fight off the enemies and unique boss in the area, then interact with the tree. Players will receive the Scroll of Inifuss, which must be taken to Akara in town. Once Akara interprets the scroll, players can return to Stony Field to complete the quest.
The Scroll of Inifuss can be viewed in the player’s inventory, and it will trigger an animation that reveals the correct order to interact with the stones to open the portal. The portal will lead players to Old Tristram where Deckard Cain is waiting to be saved. Saving him will update the quest, and Cain will then be available in town to identify items for players.
