Arsenal want to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko and their hopes of a deal have been boosted with Manchester City telling him that he can go.
It’s easy to forget that Zinchenko actually signed for City as an attacking midfielder.
Zinchenko joined from Ufa in Russia having previously been on the books with Shakhtar Donetsk, and he was known as a forward-thinking midfield player.
Pep Guardiola has converted Zinchenko into a left back though and the 25-year-old has now racked up more than 125 appearances for City.
Zinchenko is a loveable character at City but has also offered plenty on the pitch, helping change the game against Aston Villa on the final day of the season, securing City’s title win.
ARSENAL WANT TO SIGN OLEKSANDR ZINCHENKO
Zinchenko has never really been a first-choice player at City even though Pep Guardiola has hailed him as ‘incredible’.
The Times now report that Zinchenko has been told that he is free to leave this summer if he so wishes.
This comes after the Manchester Evening News reported that Zinchenko would have to be convinced of his first-team prospects moving forward in order to stay.
It looks like Zinchenko will be on the move this summer and Arsenal look to be the most likely destination.
Arsenal are believed to be interested in signing Zinchenko given that Mikel Arteta coached him at City.
Zinchenko would be viewed as competition for Kieran Tierney at left back given that the Scot picks up a few injuries every season.
Nuno Tavares was brought in for that role but he really struggled in his first Premier League season, especially towards the back end of the campaign.
Zinchenko would be Premier League ready and City appear to have opened the door for Arsenal to come in with a summer deal.
