Earlier this week, the Portugal U21 international completed his move to the Emirates after Arsenal and Porto agreed on a £34 million deal, with Fonte now stating that he is looking forward to seeing how Vieira fairs in England’s top flight.
“He’s a very exciting young player who is very talented on the ball and intelligent,” he said. “Arsenal fans should be very excited because he’s the sort of player that they’ll like and I’m looking forward to seeing him in the Premier League.”
Certainly a talented young prospect and when diving into Vieira’s profile, he possesses plenty of versatility, a trait Mikel Arteta looks for in players as the Spaniard places huge importance on players being able to provide quality in multiple zones across the pitch, thereby increasing the unpredictability in which the team plays with.
Arsenal’s current setup consists of a 2-3-2-3 shape in settled possession, with two central creators occupying the half-spaces and usually, it has been Martin Odegaard and Granit Xhaka operating between the lines.
Vieira possesses the ability to play both on the left and right side of midfield, giving Arsenal an additional creative option in advanced areas.
Whilst its’ not his best position, he has also featured on the right flank, which could offer the Gunners a potential back-up option to the talented Bukayo Saka, who certainly needs to be managed better next season in terms of minutes so that the burnout risk is avoided.
It’s expected that Vieira will be given an opportunity to shine during pre-season, which will be a great period for the former Porto star to develop chemistry with others and understand the demands of the system in place.
