Jürgen Klopp ‘wants £46m transfer as quickly as possible’ as Liverpool suffer double injury blow

Man City battle for £67m Villarreal star

Liverpool and Manchester City are both vying to sign Villarreal forward Yéremy Pino, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, with the 19-year-old forward having a release clause of €80m (£67m) written into his contract.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the up-and-coming winger, who was missing when Liverpool played Villarreal in the Champions League last season because of an ankle injury.

When they do, splashing that sort of sum on a player who is still to prove himself at the top level seems highly unlikely too. Pino has, to this point, mostly been used as a squad option for Unai Emery.

Double injury setback

Ibrahima Konaté and Curtis Jones are both set to miss the first match of the season with Fulham with Liverpool having a number of injury absences to contend with before the matches have even begun.

“Unfortunately, I have to spend some time off the pitch but it won’t be too long,” Konaté wrote on his Instagram page. “In the meantime, I will be doing my best to come back even stronger and support the boys.”

According to The Athletic, Jones could be out for a month after he picked up a calf injury. The midfielder came off the bench against Manchester City in the Community Shield but then missed the Strasbourg friendly at Anfield the following day.

Bayern Munich forward linked

According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp wants the Reds to sign Leroy Sané from Bayern Munich — and wants Julian Ward to submit an offer ‘as quickly as possible’.

Sané, who moved to Germany for £55m in 2020, scored seven times and assisted a further seven last season in the Bundesliga but only started 22 times. Robert Lewandowski has left, but now he has Sadio Mané to compete with too.

The report claims that Sané would cost €55m (£46m) to sign this summer but if guaranteed minutes are what he is after, a move to Liverpool is hardly going to offer that with Luis Díaz and Mohamed Salah on either flank.
