Arsenal are set for a very busy summer transfer window ahead. Last year, the Gunners spent over £140million in transforming the squad to be competitive once again.
While they managed that, Mikel Arteta’s side fell just short of a Champions League return to north London rivals Tottenham. The current break will offer the Spaniard a chance to address some pressing issues going into the next campaign, with a top four finish back on the agenda.
One particular area that will likely be looked at is the depth of the squad. A number of key injuries left Arteta mixing and matching his starting side and may have ultimately cost fourth.

One of the players linked with fixing this is Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez. The defender is able to play as both a left-sided centre-back as well as a left-back, covering two areas.
With that in mind, football.london has taken a look at all the latest news linking Martinez with a move to the Emirates.
Initial bid rejected
Arsenal made an initial bid of roughly €30million (£25.7million) for Martinez, according to The Athletic. The Gunners are said to have made the Argentina international a “top priority” for the summer.
However, the initial bid is said to have been rejected by the Eredivisie club, who are keen to keep hold of the defender, but the Gunners will continue to push.
Manchester United battle
Arsenal aren’t alone in their reported interest though, as Sky Sports claim, via the Daily Mail, that Manchester United are also considering a move. Martinez played under former boss Erik ten Hag, who recently left Ajax for United.
Transfer boost
Arsenal do, however, have a potential boost over Manchester United in their pursuit of the defender. As reported by David Ornstein, there are reservations from the latter over his physical ability, which may clear a path for the Gunners to swoop in and land their man.
