Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are ready to make a move for Aaron Hickey after Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal made a bid for the left-back, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The report has calmed that Arsenal have already made a bid of €25 million (£21.25 million) for the Bologna left-back.
And now Newcastle are ready to make their move, according to the report, which has claimed interest from Brentford as well in Hickey, described by former Heart of Midlothian manager Daniel Stendel as “an extraordinary talent” who is “like Philipp Lahm” in The Scottish Sun in August 2020.
ARSENAL OR NEWCASTLE UNITED FOR AARON HICKEY?
In our view, Bologna left-back Aaron Hickey should pick Newcastle United over Arsenal.
Yes, Arsenal are a bigger club than Newcastle and will also play in the Europa League next season, but they have one of the best left-backs in the Premier League in Kieran Tierney.
Hickey, who is a regular at Bologna, is going to struggle to play regularly for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Now, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe does have options at left-back.
Matt Targett was brilliant for the Magpies, but he was only on loan from Aston Villa.
Hickey made 34 starts and two substitute appearances in Serie A for Bologna this season.
The 19-year-old Scotland international left-back scored five goals and gave one assist in those matches.
