Report: Arsenal have held ‘secret talks’ this weekend about signing ‘excellent’ £45m player

Arsenal and Manchester United are both said to have held what are being called ‘secret talks’ this weekend over the signing of Lisandro Martinez.

The Mirror has reported that both United and Arsenal met Martinez’s representatives in London this weekend with a view to signing the defender. In those talks, it’s claimed that both clubs were told that a bid in the region of £45m would be the required course of action.

Martinez has emerged as a target for both the Gunners and United. Both sides are seeking a new defender this summer and the Argentinian has been hugely impressive with Ajax. Tottenham, too, are also said to be keeping a close eye on Martinez’s situation.

Branded as an ‘excellent‘ player by Erik ten Hag, it is little wonder the new United boss wants one of his former players with him in Manchester. The defender is one of a number of Ten Hag’s old guard who are being tipped to move to Old Trafford this summer.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will increase their bid and go again for Martinez or not. The Gunners are expected to sign Gabriel Jesus this week and are chasing Leeds winger, Raphinha. United, meanwhile, have yet to make a signing this summer.

TBR’s View: Arsenal Should Pay For Lisandro To Complete Perfect Summer

Arsenal have already done well this window and if they can somehow sign Jesus, Raphinha and then Martinez, it will be one of the most exciting the club has had in years.

Crucially, all those players improve the first XI and squad a lot. Lisandro is a class act and it’s obvious why so many clubs are keen on signing him.

Even at a £45m asking price, you’d have to say it looks worth the money.
