Taika Waititi has revealed the story behind his romance with singer Rita Ora in a heartwarming Valentine’s Day post.
The filmmaker, 46, paid tribute to his “bestie” Rita, 31, who he has been friends with for four years, and dating for a year, in a post on Instagram on Monday to mark the occasion.
Sharing a photograph of the pair posing, he accompanied it with the caption: “First photo the night we met four years ago.
“We’ve been mates ever since. Then a year ago we decided to “complicate” things but it just got easier.”
He continued: “Happy Valentines Day to my bestie” paired with love heart emojis.
Waititi also uploaded photographs of him taking pictures of his superstar girlfriend with the caption “Boyfriends of Instagram”.
The Masked Singer judge returned the love by thanking her director boyfriend for “being cool” and “entertaining” her in a post to her 16 million Instagram followers.
She accompanied the photos with a number of snaps of the couple looking loved up and on holiday together.
Ora captioned the post: “Us. 4 years ago. To now. thanks for being cool. And entertaining me forevs..Happy Valentine’s Day bestie” with a love heart emoji.
Ora told the Independent she would “love to have a nice big family” and speaking of her romance with Waititi said she “wasn’t expecting to find love” with him.
The hitmaker also added she wants to keep her relationship out of the limelight and “protect it”.
The pair were recently snapped at the Super Bowl in Los Angeles.
