The 11 Arsenal players Mikel Arteta will be without for start of pre-season training

In just under a week Arsenal’s pre-season preparations ahead of the 2022/23 campaign will be underway as senior and academy players begin to filter back for training.

June 27 marks the unofficial start of the new season as that is when players are due to report back to London Colney as Mikel Arteta plots to ensure his side are ready to go for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on August 5 – avoiding a repeat of last season when they were second best at Brentford.

The plan for the Gunners over the next five or so weeks is to firstly travel out to Germany for a pre-season training camp with a friendly against FC Nurnberg on July 8 at the Max-Morlock Stadion pencilled in. They then return to London before travelling out to America for their second international tour of pre-season on July 13 where they will face Everton, Orlando City and Chelsea.

Furthermore, the Emirates Cup returns after a three-year absence with Arsenal facing La Liga outfit Sevilla which is the final warm-up game currently pencilled in before the trip to Selhurst Park. Football.london understands the club are hoping to arrange a behind-closed-doors friendly in between those games, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

With that said, Arteta’s pre-season plans have been slightly disrupted by the most recent UEFA Nations League, international friendlies, plus World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as a number of his senior players were involved in those fixtures which means their campaign only ended last week.

As a result, there will be a lack of senior members present at London Colney on June 27 as those involved during the international break have been given extra time off to recuperate so they won’t be reporting for duty for at least another week – and in some cases after the Germany training camp.

Aaron Ramsdale, Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe, Granit Xhaka, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Lucas Torreira and Folarin Balogun all represented their respective nations over the past fortnight so are the 10 Arsenal first-team players currently contracted to the club whom Arteta will be without for the start of pre-season training.

In addition, summer signing Marquinhos won’t be present on June 27 either as he can’t officially be registered as an Arsenal player following his £3m move from Sao Paulo until July 1 as that’s when the international transfer window opens so he’d have to wait a few more days to join up with his new teammates. This also applies to Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner should their moves, as expected, be made official before next Friday.

It remains to be seen if Benjamin White, Gabriel Magalhaes, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Nicolas Pepe are present for the first day of pre-season training as despite the quartet being called up by England, Brazil, Japan and Ivory Coast respectively they didn’t feature – with the former pulling out of Gareth Southgate’s squad altogether.
